Joyce C. Portnoy, President

Joyce moved to Boynton Beach ten years ago, and she immediately became active as a Community Caring Center board member. She has served as the president of the organization for nearly six years. She came to CCC after serving on the board of a food pantry in Freehold, New Jersey, and has been interested in giving her time to community affairs for many years. With a background in public administration and with prior service in the League of Women Voters and in her synagogue, her experience has helped her to lead the CCC. She lives with her husband of 50 years, and has all her children and grandchildren in the area. 

Everlene Baker, 1st Vice President

Everlene is a retired administrator from PBC School District. She has been a community activitist for Human Rights and is a member of New Christian Life. A powerful prayer warrior and choir member. She is a member of the Boynton Beach Democratic Club and assists her senior members with "Souls to the Polls."

Doreen Robinson, 2nd Vice President

Doreen retired in 2008 and moved to Boynton Beach in 2010 from East Longmeadow Ma. Doreen joined the CCC Board in August 2012 with 36+ years of management experience with Marriott Hotels & Resort and Holiday Inns. She has served as a Board Member for The Pap Corps – Champions for Cancer Research, Indian Spring Country Club, the Forest Park Zoological Society and The Pioneer Valley United Way in Springfield Ma. She is the VP of Fundraising and Community Outreach. She was spotlighted on CBS’ Extraordinary People Segment in March of 2015 as an outstanding volunteer.


Janet Dadia, Secretary

Currently employed by HCR Manorcare as Senior Administrator for Heartland of Boynton Beach, a 120 bed skilled nursing facility that is the preeminent provider for patients with Alzheimer’s/Dementia and other Memory Care issues.  Her entire career had been in healthcare.  She joined HCR Manorcare in 2002.  Prior to that, she worked as Assistant Administrator for a 280 bed Skilled Nursing and Assisted Living Facility in Linden, NJ, as well as Metropolitan Jewish Health System, a 900 bed facility in Brooklyn, NY.  Born in Brooklyn, NY and graduated from Glassboro State College, Glassboro, NJ,  in 1988 with a BA in communications/Public Relations.  She received her Nursing Home Administrator license in 2001 and is duly licensed in both Florida and NJ.  She serves as a Nursing Home Administrator Preceptor training which prepares students for a career as Nursing Home Administrator. She is a Board member of Florida Career College and the Academy for Nursing and Health Occupations. 

Larry Diljohn, Treasurer
Larry is the Branch Manager of AmTrust, a member of NYCB.  He is married with three sons.

Josephine Casello

Josephine moved to Boynton Beach with her family in 2009 and shortly after was introduced to the Community Caring Center. After a lengthy Banking career and a transition to Medical Practice management that has spanned from several major Canadian cities, the Cayman Islands, and Massachusetts; it a privilege to participate and be to be part of this beautiful South Florida community. Josephine was raised by a village, in a small fishing town in Newfoundland, Canada that fostered and expected citizen involvement from everyone as a way of life. She has continued to be active in community service ever since with various organizations such as The United Way of Canada, Cayman Islands Cancer Society, Catholic Church Lay ministries, Cayman Hospital Outreach Program and Calgary Feed the Hungary. Josephine looks forward to continuing to learn and grow with the Community Caring Center.

John E. McGovern, Ph.D. 
John joined the CCC board in 2013 with 35+ years experience in the not-for-profit sector and several board involvements including founding member and first board chair of The Greater Boynton Beach Foundation. His professional experience in grantmanship and planned giving has brought insights to the CCC board. His doctorate in policy administration and his quantitative skills have strengthened board work in the areas of budget and planning. As an advocate he has been awarded statewide honors by the Florida Guardian ad Litem Program and in Palm Beach County has served over 500 foster children in court processes. 

Arturo Wittman

Retired from Palm Beach County School District
Thirty+ year career as Demographer/Manager for Broward County and Palm Beach County School districts. Art enjoys
volunteering, traveling, and keeping fit.  He is a volunteer with 
Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League, St. George's Center Inc. a non-profit feeding program, and Senior Warden at St. George's Episcopal Church. He is a BIG  tennis fan.

Advisory Board Membership

James J. DeVoursney M.D. has served the Boynton Beach community for over 17 years and has gained a mass amount of loyal patient followers. He began his medical career as an RN and worked his way up to becoming a prominent Board Certified Dermatologist. He completed his M.D. at the University of Miami School of Medicine and obtained his residency in the University of Miami Department of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery and graduated as Chief Resident. 

Dr. DeVoursney is certified by The American Board of Dermatology, is a Fellow of The American Academy of Dermatology, The Florida Society of Dermatologic Surgeons, The American Society of Dermatological Surgery, and The American Society of Mohs Surgery.

On a personal level, Dr. DeVoursney is dedicated to his family and to the Boynton Beach community where he serves on the advisory board for the Boynton Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), a member of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), Business Professionals, & President for the Inlet Communities Association (INCA)

Maureen Connolly Shannon, CTCP, CFIRS, serves on the CCC Financial Committee. She provides financial services to an exclusive clientele. She served as a securities trader, Supervisor of Security trading, and Trust Compliance Officer with Chase Manhattan Corporation in the '90's. She retired in 2002 as the Vice President of Compliance with Cypress Trust Company, before entering into private business in 2002. Environmentally active, she volunteers with Arthur R Marshall Foundation and Grassy Waters Preserve, and has served as member of CCC since 2009.

Sharonda McClendon, serving on the Chronic Meals Committee. Sharonda is the owner of 3 Angels Consulting, Inc., an Elder Care Planning Company. She studied Organized Leadership at PB Atlantic University. She has been in healthcare for 16 years and was a regional consultant overseeing the financial department in skilled nursing facilities and is a licensed assisted living facility administrator.

Mary Elizabeth Roth, MD, FACPE, serving on the Chronic Meals Committee and a Caring Heart Ambassador, she is the former Vice Dean for Graduate Medical Education and Clinical Affairs with the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine, FAU designated as the Institutional Officer. She is also a professor of Integrated Biomedical Science. 



Sherry Johnson, Executive Director 

Sherry attended Western Michigan University & taught Jr. HS Math before moving to Florida. As a loan office with Bank of America, she studied accounting & cash management at Broward College before becoming a State Certified Building Contractor. She served as an In-fill Housing Specialist to Habitat for Humanity, Local Initiatives Support Corporation, The Center for Technology & Economic Development, and also as a Property Acquisition Specialist for imminent domain acquisitions for the Delray Beach CRA, WPB Housing Authority, and the City of Oakland Park. She studied in Washington DC with the Kellogg Foundation for Leadership Development for Non-profit CDC. Her greatest accomplishments are 1) JAMA publication on the statistical analysis for a treatment for Lou Gehrig's Disease for a local Boca Raton laboratory; 2) wrote & published the McGhee concept on the comprehensive approach to community revitalization studied at the University in Nigeria, which 3) captured the vision of the United Nations obtaining accreditation to attend Habitat II. This concept was presented at the 2nd National Conference on Urban Issues, Buffalo, NY, the 13th Annual Pan-African Conference, the Miami Forum at the MLK Center, FIU’s 2nd National Conference on Urban Issues, and the United Nations "Habitat II, 2nd Conference on Human Settlements" in Istanbul, June 1996. 4) She walked with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in the 1960's and was recently honored by the MLK, Jr. Committee for her work at the CCC where she has dedicated herself for the last 17. 

Michelle Davis White, Senior Caregiving Coordinator 

Michelle is a graduate of Bethune Cookman University in History/Pre-Law. She taught in the PBC School District 6 & 7th grade Social Studies/ Geography. She is a member of Greater St. Paul AME and a member of Boynton Beach Democratic Club, a member of Legal Women Voter's for PBC to assist women to restore their voting rights.  Michelle has been with the CCC since 2010. She provides case management for Senior VeggieMobile Program consisting of 262 frail and elderly in the "Heart of Boynton" helping them to "Age In Place." Her program addresses health issues both physical & mental regarding isolationism, nutrition education for chronic diseases & wellness maintenance, other social services, as well as providing fresh produce and hot meals on a weekly basis.   

Tony Miller, MSHA, MBA, Outreach Coordinator

Tony holds a Florida and Federal license as a Nursing Home Administrator. He obtained a BS in Health Administration from Florida Atlantic University in 1997, and in 1999 a MS in Health Care Administration and Long Term Care and a MBAin Finance and Hospitality from Lynn University, Boca Raton, FL . He is an award winning nursing home administrator for his ability to manage and direct skilled teams of 15 to 20 Department Directors, Medical Directors, 100 + Support Staff, and ancillary businesses with focused leadership development, and strategic talent management.  

He motivates teams to help them accomplish superior results by functioning with a solid commitment to operational and budgetary excellence, quality health care and superior customer service.

Rachel B. Waterman,  Senior Development Consultant/Economic Development Specialist, Global Development Solutions   Rachel holds a MA in Community & Economic Development from Illinois State University. Her BA is in International Studies from Barry University where she was the top graduate in her major field of study; and also has a minor in Spanish Interpretation and Translation. While in graduate school, Ms. Waterman won several research awards including a grant from the Illinois State Governor’s office for her groundbreaking ethnographic research within the Latino community of Central Illinois. Her research was later utilized by the US Department of Justice as their baseline indicator for the Federal State of Affairs Social Justice State by State Report.  Her work has encompassed a broad spectrum within various aspects of community and economic development. She has worked as a non-profit Executive Director, a researcher, a consultant, a grant writer, a trainer, as a Senior Planner with Palm Beach County’s Office of Community Revitalization, and as Mayor of the City of Lake Worth, FL.

 Ms. Waterman has been a presenter at many state national and international conferences including the Florida Festivals and Events association, the Florida State Association of Code Enforcement Officers, Neighborworks America, the International Women in Development Conference, North Atlantic Training Institute for Sexuality Health Educators (NATISHE), Smart Growth Network, and the Quad Cities Health and Human Services Association. Ms. Waterman who is fluent in both Spanish and Portuguese has long been an advocate for empowering residents and agency staff to become active participants and leaders in the development, economic and otherwise, of their own communities.

Erika Fagan, Administrative Accounting Assistant

Sue A. Rostan, LD, RD  Dietitian, is a consultant providing clinical Nutritional Services for CCC's Senior Meals and Chronic Meals Program. She has been responsible for all clinical documentation of 170 bed facility. She provides MDS, Care Plans, and Initial Assessments.

Steven Frank Jones, CEC - Chronic Meal Plan Chef

Originally from Michigan, Steve is a graduate from New York's Culinary Institute of America. Owner and operator of a personal chef service in South Florida. I have been built clientele and obtained my goal of a successful personal chef business and high-end catering operation. Exclusively the chef for 10 Miami Dolphin players and coaches during the 2014 and 2015 seasons. He has served as executive chef for PARKLAND GOLF and COUNTRY CLUB and LOST TREE CLUB, North Palm Beach, FL responsible for high volume catering and required to keep all costs and quality standards in order.
