Harriet who is 92 and still living at home greeted us at the door. The news was on and ipad out to talk to her grandkids. As I got to know Harriet, she told me how she has always considered herself very civic-minded.
She is originally from Brooklyn, then moved to Memphis for 20 years. In each place she has been involved with volunteering. Things like the League of Women Voters, among others. When she moved down to the Palm Beach area she naturally became a part of a local organization, so she became a part of the CCC.
She has been a part of the organization in one way or another for over 20 years. One of the things she really enjoyed doing was “walking”. If you are not familiar with this activity, it was a volunteer led fundraising effort. Volunteers would go door to door to share the mission of the CCC. Sometimes she would get $200, which was a lot of money back in the day. Being a part of the CCC is one of the blessings she counts everyday. She feels so much fellowship from the senior program. Going to the events is like going to see family. She looks forward to it and it is such a big part of the positive part of her life. She has seen the work her whole life and says, “It is a good cause and they have a wonderful presence in the community. There is nothing I would not do for this organization.”
Seniors like Harriet love to have people come visit
